About Eleanor Godway

Eleanor Godway holds a B.A. and an M.A. from Cambridge University, and received her Ph.D. (doctoral thesis on Merleau-Ponty) from York University (Canada). She taught philosophy at Earlham College for four years before joining Central Connecticut State University in 1987—where she is now Professor Emerita. Her specializations include phenomenology, existentialism, and the history of philosophy since Descartes. Professor Godway has published articles on Merleau-Ponty, Kurt Wolff, John Macmurray and other thinkers, and co-edited Who Is This We: Absence of Community.

Currently she is working on a full-length study of John Macmurray and serves on the committee revising Faith and Practice of New England Yearly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers).

Awards

• Fellowship at the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities, University of Edinburgh (2001–02) for research in the John Macmurray archives.
• York University (Canada) Graduate Faculty Thesis Prize (1987).
